2021 - 2024
Watercolor 15,24 x 10,6 cm
In progress, more than 200 by June 2024
It seemed impossible to fit the immensity onto paper, so the first timid attempt was a monochromatic miniature: only one tone of aquarelle that I let evaporate to achieve darker tones as I progressed to the foreground. That was the origin of the title that remained due to its connotations of loss...
Gradually I remembered places where my roots are set, memories intensified by reading about explorers, scientists and artists; witnesses of magnificent and untouched landscapes... Humboldt, Mutis, my grandfather.
And, what is the reason behind? environmental uncertainty worries me...
What can I do?
Paint to remember, paint to preserve, paint to create awareness, paint for life, for beauty, for identity...
From the beginning I thought of these miniatures as digital engraving matrices to be enlarged or projected, changing the intimacy of the miniature to a more immersive experience.
This landscapes are imaginary…they do not exist…if we don’t act now to preserve our planet and reduce our impact, this is what will remain…a distant memory…
